A special package just arrived at my home – the brand new DJI Phantom 3 drone. I chose the Professional version of the new drone, and I’ve been having a blast testing out this quadcopter for myself. The new drone doesn’t disappoint, and I’m especially excited about all the new features it has to offer.
Why did I choose the new DJI Phantom 3 drone over the other available quadcopters? Here are just a few of the reasons I made this wise decision.
Helpful Beginner Mode
I’ve had little experience flying drones, so the helpful Beginner Mode offered by the DJI Phantom 3 influenced my purchasing decision. Using this mode makes it easy to learn how to fly. It’s possible to program the drone to only flight within a specific altitude and distance from you, ensuring that the Phantom stays in a specific area. This way you won’t accidentally fly into any obstacles or unwanted areas while you learn how to fly.
Flying with the DJI Pilot App
The new DJI Phantom 3 comes with a remote control, but most of the flying can be done via the new DJI Pilot app. Simply attach your smartphone to the controller using a USB cable. The app offers you the ability to completely control the camera and the drone from your smartphone. With the app you can easily use the auto-takeoff and landing features, you have access to the LiveMap, and you can switch between video or photo mode. Use the app to manually control the camera and start video recording or begin taking photos.
I also found that the app offers a quick video editor, which allowed me to edit videos immediately on my smartphone so they can be instantly shared. I really liked the Interactive Flight simulator, which helped me to learn how to control the drone. It also allowed me to try out my flying skills within a virtual environment. Multiple user manuals and tutorial videos come with the DJI Pilot app as well, and it also allows you to keep a flight log.
Excellent In-Flight Performance
After flying the DJI Phantom 3, I’m impressed with the in-flight performance. It’s responsive and fast, and even when you begin yawing in place, you end up with a smooth spin. The range of the quadcopter is also incredible, offering you the ability to control the drone at up to 1.2 miles away, which is significantly better than previous Phantom quadcopters.
Great Photograph and Video Capabilities
What really stands out is the great photography and video capabilities of the new DJI Phantom 3. I choose the Professional version of the drone because it offers Ultra HD quality 4K video and 12.0 mega pixels. The incredible quality of the video allowed me to take some great stills from the video frames, and the still shots looked great. I was able to shot RAW files without a problem, and the photos offer a great range of tones.
The 3-axis stabilization gimbal on the drone helps improve shot photo quality, since it keeps your shots stable, whether you’re trying to take still shots or shooting video.
Intelligent Flight Battery
The new DJI Phantom 3 also comes with a new Intelligent Flight Battery, which offers high voltage compared to the voltage of previous drones. It also includes upgraded LEDs and built-in sensors that let you keep track of battery status, alerting you of the flight time left. My Professional version also includes a powerful charger that charges the battery quickly so I can get back to flying the drone faster.
Multiple autopilot options are available on the Phantom 3. Since I wasn’t very experienced with drones when I first started flying this quadcopter, I loved the Auto-Takeoff feature, which turns on the drone’s motors, making it rise to a preset height before hovering in place. The Auto-Return Home feature removed my anxiety over landing the drone for the first time. I used the button to make the drone return home. I also like the Failsafe feature, which returns the drone to the takeoff point if the battery runs low or you lose connection.
Overall, I’m excited about all the great features of my new drone. I’m looking forward to flying the new DJI Phantom 3 for both business and pleasure.
